You were having load spikes while all mods were disabled during testing. The average load increase with the mods enabled wasn't a massive jump and any exponential changes you are seeing is because you are trying to run forums getting hundreds of thousands of database hits on a 7200RPM SATA setup.

Basically your server isn't capable of doing what you want it to, it's not a problem with the mods or something we can "fix" for you. You need a server setup more suited to handling large amounts of database usage and most likely a better CPU as well. The server you said you are running should only be $150-200 at most, if you're paying double that I would strongly suggest finding a better host.

so we just moved to hivelocity as you suggested and got these two servers

As soon, the 2 mods(Thanks/Like & Tagging) are turned on, the load goes to 2.50 without them, it stays around 0.50. Normal? It does slow down the site quite a bit.

How about vB Optimise. Would it help to bring down the load and speed up the site??

There are several other mods, I am looking to buy but the site has a hard time handling just these two right now :(

2.50 is perfectly within the normal parameters for CPUs that powerful. 1.00 in server load is equiv to 1 thread within 1 core, so a dual hexa-core system would have 12 cores * 2 for HyperThreading taking it up to 24.

Anything above 24 is abnormal server load for your setup and indicates a bottleneck, anything below and your server should not require queuing in order to process requests within a timely fashion.

That being said, can you please PM me with your root password for your web server? If so, I'll set up a simple load monitoring script which will record your server load at regular intervals, giving us a better view of the actual impact of the mods over a period of time :)

Thanks Fillip H.. I didn't talk to my server admin when posted here, he said the same thing. Site is very stable now :)

One quick question about @mentioning feature.

Some of my members over use it. They have a list of members saved and whenever they create a thread or make a post. They mention 100-200 of them all at once and that did cause issues in our older server. how can I limit that feature, so they can't mention more than 4-5 people at once. I can't see any option in settings.

Also, please tell me why would I need Vb optimise plugin. I am looking to buy a bunch of plugins, how many do you think this server can handle? :)

I think you'll be surprised at what it can handle... :)

vBOptimise helps in caching data. Try out the Lite version if you want to see if it will work for you. :)

There's no such option at the moment, sorry :(

You'll have to enforce this via forum rules and infractions.

vB Optimise helps reduce load on database servers (or servers where the web and database is on the same server) by using RAM cache features like APC. It caches content that might be heavy to fetch from the database in RAM, which is super fast to access.

Could you make a feature request in the user tagging forum for that feature to make sure we look at it for the next version? It's something we should really put in there :)

Regarding vBOptimise, you're running an extremely quick setup there with those SSDs and the server looks to be more than powerful enough for what you need so you wouldn't notice much difference speed wise, but it would make your server last longer without needing upgraded, and give your hard drives a longer lifespan :).

Thanks very much guys, You have been a great help. 5 Star customer service, now ready to buy more mods.
