Howdy

I just purchased the credit and shop system and seem to be having a major issue.
I installed as per instructions but when I installed the product-credits_vbulletin.xml the server grinded to a halt and was extremely slow and unusable and has been that way most of the day.
The server op just got back to me and said we were being Dos attacked from china and blocked them.
At first I thought it was a coincidence. the point system didn't seem to be awarding points even though it was on and events were uploaded.
I uninstalled everything and started from scratch and as soon as i imported product-credits_vbulletin.xml it gets to "Updating style information for each style" and it just happened again.
Might pay to look into this asap :(
Edit The server OP got back to me the second time and says it's causing a massive server load and the only way to fix it is via a server reset.
Cheers
Travis

Make sure you install the other .xml file FIRST. If I remember correctly, there are two of them. The first one is the actual vBCredits mod, the second one is for the events specifically relating to vB.

yeah I did that mate installed the product-credits.xml first as per the instructions both times but its the product-credits_vbulletin.xml thats doing something to overload Apache.
Maybe installing an older or the lite version first will rectify it??? I'm not game enough to try again.

There have been dozens and dozens of people installing this, and this is the first time someone has reported any issues with installation let alone reports of it taking too long. What is your server load generally like (there are some numerical averages listed in the admincp dashboard which you can post here). Perhaps you should try turning off your forum for a few minutes to let the load die down a bit before you run the import.

As for it being a security issue - your description sounds like a coincidence than anything - especially since DOS attacks have literally nothing to do with the integrity of any code you are running - your server is simply being bombarded with requests that it cannot keep up. Maybe that was the source of the slow install in the first place? (that is, you were trying to do it while your server was under DOS stress).

I would say try doing what I suggested and if it still seems slow I can try to debug it for you.

Yes I was a bit hasty with my original post. The problem was when I was installing the second XML it was overloading Apache and not a Dos attack as first thought. I have no access to reset the server myself so I couldn't fix it, closing the site didn't work.
I've been running VB since 2004 and installed a large amount of mods in that time and I all I can say this is the first time this has happened.
Sometimes you read about people installing mods(generally speaking) having no issues when upgrading from a previous version but others having issues when installing the latest version from scratch.
Maybe there was a conflict with another mod who knows or something to do with VB 4.0.7, I'm at work atm and will look at it again when I get home I just thought I'd better let you know what happened. :)

The second XML just inserts some stuff into a table and sets up some standard vb templates/phrases/plugins/options, and its the same amount of work when first installing or upgrading... Nothing being calculated or drawn out looping or anything. If its still not going well pm me an admin login and ftp and I will see if theres anything weird happening.

No worries mate I'll let you know how it goes.
I'm going to give it a break for a few days because I think the server OP is getting a bit sick of having to reset the server every time I try uploading the mod.
I tried an earlier version and the same thing happened however once the server is reset the mod seems to work ok
I may just have to use the points system in the vBshop for now.
