We are having problems the last week or so with mysql error number 5. Have spoken to webhost and this is what they said

This error indicates that the query results are larger than the query_cache_limit value, which is set to 4MB on our shared servers. You can try optimizing the database, or perhaps using a caching mechanism for MySQL that works with vBulletin. We are unable to increase the query_cache_limit set for the server.

Please try optimzing the database as a first step, and let us know if you have any issues. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please let us know and we will be happy to assist you.

Would vb Optimise benefit us? if so, would i need the light or the pro?

What sort of traffic is your forum getting?

Around 200-230 members per day and up to and just over 1000 guests per day. The problem is we have a busy Australian classifieds which is probably responsible for most of the guests at peak time in AUS.

I'd be tempted to look at VPS... I had similar problems a couple of years ago with less members, and the move to VPS helped. Though depending on exactly what you need it will prove more expensive than Shared. VPS would then allow you to control your settings better.
