I am requested the same feature that vbplaza has which is allow members to purchase Songs for their Profiles.

Basically the admin can set however many points for each usergroup that the songs will cost them.

The user than enters in a working mp3 url and than it gets added to their profile. They can buy multiple Songs, and the songs will go through a play list. They can manage their songs in, and change the order of them, enable/disable certain songs, or even delete songs they no longer want.

The admin can choose to give them a refund for deleted songs or not.

A feature which would be cool that vbplaza never got round to creating would be to allow members to upload their own songs to your server (as an option, not everyone would want that enabled by default).

Another option which would be super cool is to allow a button (for selected usergroups), which gives them the option to download that song.

Who said the music will be illegal music tho. It could be free to share music. Either way that is for each forum owner to take into consideration when enabling that feature.

I like the idea, we will look into the feasability of implementing it when we start final plans for the next version ^.^

that is good news because the beta testers on my vb4 board....the first thing they noticed that was missing was the sounds in their profiles lol

Why not allow the admins to put up predefined songs to sell, and disable the url to song, this way whatever the song that plays, its the admins responsibility. Each song has a price, etc.

As a rule it should be ok to allow linking to the mp3 from another site, or even from the persons on server - forum owners are protected in the same way as other user-generated content by the DMCA. Essentially the forum owner is required to pass on the DMCA to the person committing the violation. If the person disputes it then the copyright holder can then take action against them - but NOT against the owner of the server, search engine or other such method.

This is known as the "Safe Harbour Provision" for anyone interested in reading more.

tl;dr copyright issues are not a consideration for us in creating this feature =)

Recent discoveries about Google Chrome has made it very difficult to properly support music playback (as evidenced by the issues with shoutbox sounds in Chrome).

It's uncertain whether we'll be able to overcome these issues :(

Difficult but not impossible :D

I'm sure you can come up with a quick temp. solution (have it disabled for chrome users for the time being) or something else. OR I am sure you can find that right solution first up anyway ^^

Interestingly tho, the profile sounds on my profile seem to work okay in Chrome: http://www.gamerzneeds.net/forums/members/hornstar.html
