Hi!

I need help making the {vb:raw vbshout} appear when putting it in my header template. For some reason it does not work! It shows up find in FORUMHOME, but when I chuck it in the header template nothing shows up.

Could you please give me a step by step on how to make it work in the header properly?

Thanks!

To put vBShout in a custom location using version 5.4.0 or above, do the following:

Step 1: AdminCP -> DBTech - vBShout-> Instance Management -> [Edit].

Step 2: Change the Auto-Display Shoutbox setting to Disabled.

Step 3: Write down the the Varname setting. For the default shoutbox, it's instance1. The rest of this guide will assume you replace instance1 with the actual Varname if it is different.

Step 4: Enter the Style Manager and add either {vb:raw show.vbshout_instance1} (vB4) or {$show[vbshout_instance1]} (vB3) to the templates you wish the shoutbox to appear in.

Follow these steps as described and you will have total control over the position of the Shoutbox.
Please note that some locations may not work as intended on vBulletin 3.8, and also note that it is not designed to go in the Forum Blocks side-bar (vBulletin 4).

Hope that helps :)

I think there's some issues with putting it in the header template. That template is created too soon, it's not possible for me to hook into it.

Try putting it at the top of the navbar template instead.

Yes that works. However is it possible to make it separated from the forum body? Detached like the navigation menu. Cause when I post it in the navbar template, it is all together.

This is an example of what I wanted. Just putting it here if the visual aid helps :)

Unfortunately it doesn't - I don't know if that's possible.

All I can do is provide the method of moving the shoutbox, actually having it display in the way the admin wants isn't something I'm able to help with :(

Being that this was something I was trying to do, I couldn't get it to work before, but now that I installed the vbshout PRO, I can put the {vb:raw show.vbshout_instance1} above my {raw header in all my various templates and it shows up just fine now. Not sure what the deal was with the Lite, but the Pro works. Only spot I can't seem to find the right template or just won't work or whatever, is in the "What's New?" search to see all the new threads. I can't get it to load on that. But I can get it to load just fine if I were to do a typical search in my forum.

It's possible that page is using the new code structure that vBulletin is moving towards and that it doesn't use the hooks vBShout uses in order to display itself.

Just an update to my last post. The reason I could NOT get the vbshout to load on the What's New? search query page is because I had nothing "new". So I think vB was somehow masking my page and it was not truly the "what's new" page and was the generic vB Message page telling me I had "nothing new."

When I do have "new" threads to show on that page, the vbshout shows up just fine.

Just thought I'd follow up on my discovery.
