I "think" I have my bounce e-mail settings correct. I have a bounce e-mail address set up, the password and so on. I can't get it to work.

Where should I start looking? I would assume I just missed something that might be a common mistake.

Thanks

If you manually run the scheduled task, you'll see if there's any errors reported by PHP (i.e. login errors). The task is called Collect Bounced Mail :)

Under the Scheduled Tasks AdminCP menu group, click Scheduled Task Manager, then find the task called DragonByte Tech: vBMail - Collect Bounced Mail and run it.

Let me know what the output is.

That most likely means it's set up correctly.

Please elaborate on "can't get it to work" so that I can diagnose further :)

If you manually send an email to your bounced mail address then run the task as described above, does it collect that test email?

You may want to send the email from an account not associated with your forum account just to be safe, btw :p

o.k... I sent an e-mail from my work to the bounce e-mail account.

I run the cron job and this is the reply.

DragonByte Tech: vBMail - Collect Bounced Mail
Mail Collected
Done

Could it be it's working and I am not seeing it? I go to the bounced e-mail list and there isn't anyone there. I have sent a couple of dozen e-mails and certainly there should be someone listed there.

Thanks for the help

Nah, if it was working correctly you'd see "Collected Message: 1".

That's me at the end of my remote diagnostics options, so if you've lurked at all on these forums you know what comes next...

Could you please create and PM me with a temporary FTP and AdminCP account?

For security reasons, we recommend you create a new FTP account only for DBTech support, then disable or delete it after we have both confirmed the issue has been solved and there are no further issues.

The same applies to AdminCP accounts; they should ideally be temporary accounts created for us only. If we have created an account on your site already, you can optionally boost that account to Administrator and then de-admin this account once the issue has been solved.

If you use a .htaccess password protection for your AdminCP directory, it is recommended that you create a new authorised user for DBTech and remove this user once the issue has been solved.

Please test any temporary accounts you create to ensure that the FTP account has access to the forum files, and that the AdminCP account can access the administrative controls for the product we are assisting you with.

Ensuring this is all in order before submitting the information will significantly speed up the process of assisting you. We will alert you via PM if there's any issues with the login information you have provided.

When sending the PM, for your security you should also un-tick the "Save a copy in my Sent Items folder" checkbox. When the access details have been received, we will delete the PM from our inbox. Ensuring you have not kept a copy of the PM reduces the risk of security breaches.

Thank you for helping us debug our products and allowing us to assist you, we appreciate it :D

If you inspect the headers, you'll see something like this:
Code:
Return-Path: <bounce@xxxx.com>
This tells any recipient mail server to return bounced mail to that address rather than the "From" address.
