Just started using Goup moderators option and I saw that using it produced effect that all members of selected usergroup are explicitly shown as moderators, like normal moderators of some forum would be.

This could be a problem.

For example, I could give moderator rights to usergroup with many members. Maybe even with thousands members. This would be a problem.

Could you disable showing members of selected usergroups and maybe show only usergroup name instead (this sounds as best option for me)? Or nothing, this would be more preferable than it is now, at least for me.

I'm afraid this is not possible. When I originally looked at this concept, my intention was to do it as you describe. But there are inherent limitations in vB that I wasn't able to get around. What this method does allow is collective organization of moderators. It makes it easier to standardize abilities for moderators.

You are right that it possibly means an entire usergroup of thousands of users could be given permissions to moderate. If someone needed to do that then it will work fine. But I more imagine that users you would want to use you would drop into a usergroup. I know one forum running a phpBB mod that has this with English Moderators and German Moderators. A user gets added to that group and gains the same moderator permissions as the rest. This is all this is doing, simply organizing things in one location.

I really do wish I could do it as you describe, but everything I tried failed to work within vB4. :(

I'm sorry to hear this. :(

For example, I'm using this on one forum for different occasions (now it's for Christmas and New Year) and for example, I have one moderator that's passed away and we decided to retain his moderators status out of respect. But, now his name is visible there and it looks a bit odd. :(

Anyway, if it can't be done, it can't be done.

It is built in code within vBulletin to display all moderators in a forum. If he was a moderator before using the Group Moderators feature then he would/is listed by vBulletin. T&GM adds the usergroups that have moderator permissions, not the moderators (though of course as they are added by the system they will display as well).
