I'm having a little trouble understanding the Activity Amounts Configuration page.

What I'm trying to do is allow users to purchase reputation points for themselves (in addition to those awarded to them by other users using the rep system normally). Unfortunately, the list of options and fields is a bit intimidating.

So, what do I need to enter on that page (I've selected Action: Reputation) to charge users 1 credit per rep point purchased?

There's currently no way to purchase reputation in vBShop, and such an item is not currently scheduled to be included in v2.0 :(

Uggh. For "the most powerful shop system in the world" is sure seems to be missing pretty much all the functionality of, say, other shops. :(

So basically it affects usergroup permissions and gifts, and that's it? My venerable vbPlaza installation allows a heck of a lot more stuff by default (handles usergroups and gifts, plus all sorts of other stuff which isn't usergroup defined). I think I'm gonna have to stick with it. I didn't want to because it is no longer supported or updated, but even the old version is pretty powerful. :(

If you threw open the floodgates for reputation use in vbulletin, you could then use vbcredits to charge individually for it (and thus limit it upon not having enough credits, or the other limiting options). vBCredits does not expand existing vbulletin features is what I mean - it works in addition to them. So ultimately, this is possible, you are just approaching it from the wrong end. Let me know if you need help doing this still.

I'm not sure I'm following you?

We currently have rep operational; I don't want to charge people to do something they've been able to do for free up until now - that's just asking for trouble. But ideally I'd like them to be able to increase their own rep (we call it "Experience Points", and we called the vBPlaza rep=purchase item the "Training Hall" - so folks would spend 5gp and get 5xp (rep) for it.

Like I said, can't do that. What you would do is expand to unlimited reputation, but then in vbcredits, charge for the act of reputation. That means vBCredits will be in charge of stopping people from using the reputation system, not vbulletin.

I still don't follow you - sorry!

I don't want to charge people to give rep, if that's what you mean.
