Hey Guys!

Today I upgraded the Shoutbox from 5.4.8 to 6.0.3 and I got some issues.

Look at this 2 pictures to see what I mean:

shoutbox.webp

who-is-online.webp

I have no idea how to fix that!

2nd image is normal.

The first image, however, you can try turning off your Context Menu. This is an issue that can occur if your database and forum use different text encoding.

Thank you for your fast reply.

Can you explain what do you mean with "turn off the context menu" ?

How can it be that the forum and the database are working with a different text encoding?

And why is the second picture normal?
When viewing the who is online on a friendly forum - with the same shoutbox version - the normal text "Viewing Index" is shown ... the same on this site!

If you PM me with an FTP account and an AdminCP account I might be able to resolve it for everybody else who has been running into issues as well :)

I cannot recognize why the umlauts work when watching the history/archiv but in the shoutbox you will find the cryptic signs.

After nearly a week with this issue my users start to gripe :(

Like I told you in PM, investigating this issue had to be put on hold while I was ill.

Update: It seems when you imported your German language you accidentally overwrote the Master Language. Please re-import the English language as the Master Language and add German as a custom language, so that I may view the forum in English and rule out any differences in language settings.

When uploading the english master language everything is automaticly in english but the foreign characters work.

When uploading the german custom language the characters are crypted again.

because of missing translations I rollup the latest backup

You need to have English as the Master Language and set one of your two German languages as default (the one you are overwriting the master language with).

You should never ever overwrite the master language, as all your translations will be erased when you upgrade vBulletin.

In addition, your database is a complete mess. Random parts of your database is in latin1_swedish_ci (the default) and other random parts are in utf8_general_ci.

Unfortunately I will not be able to assist with this any further as it is way too complex to fix and I am not confident I will be able to properly convert your database without data loss :(

You'll run into the same issue with 5.4 if you perform the same database collation alteration as you did on v6.0, so I would advise against altering the database any further if it's working for you at the moment :)

I can´t follow, sry.

At the moment version 5.4 is running again and there are no issues like crypted signs.
It is the starting situation returned to pre-update v6.
Only this version shows this phenomena.
