vBnotifications Pro works well on relatively busy boards?

I have about 400-500 concurrent users on at a time and when I install the lite version, I notice a pretty good increase in server load. I haven't activated any notifications yet and I already see this increase. When I disable the product, it slowly goes back to normal.

Is the pro version any better, or is this product not good for busy boards? I would like to use this but not at the expense of considerable load on the server.
