I disabled the product.

Upgraded from 4.2.0 to 4.2.1

Enabled the product.

Some posts which used to have mention are now showing this text.

I have to click edit and then click save in order for it to show up.

Sounds like vBulletin rebuilt the post cache during the upgrade. There's no way to restore the proper display save for emptying the post cache (delete all rows in the postparsed table) or editing / saving each post.

Not entirely sure why you disabled it during upgrade?

Isn't it recommended by vbulletin to disable all products before upgrading?

I've never heard of such a recommendation, only to back up your files & database.

No, go to phpMyAdmin on your server, find the table, click Operations, click "Empty (TRUNCATE) the table".
