Statistics in forum whats going on would be great feature.

also i would like to be able to place the stats on custom areas

so if i wanted to place say the total downloads like in the stats sidebox what code would i use?

<p>{vb:rawphrase downloads}: <span style="font-weight: bold;">{vb:var stats.files}</span></p>

does not work on forum header / homepage.

That wont work anywhere else besides on a downloads generated page because it's not globally set. On the forumhome it doesn't load the download phrases and doesn't set the variables up.

You could create a plugin, but it's not just a sql field, it's a query and calculate that's done on the main download page. So you'd have to reproduce the same code in the plugin.
