Hi,

I have 2 addons installed on a clean xenforo:

Dragonbyte shop
snogs advanced forms

This is my report at snogs site:
The bot user i have selected to create a new thread is gaining IP addresses from the users that submit the form.

The bot user shouldn't have an IP history as it's not a real user and it's causing multiplie account reports.

Ozzy replied:

It isn't being caused by the forms add-on. The forms add-on uses the XF Thread creator service and sets the posts/threads as being automated. I have checked the bot on this site and there are no IP addresses assigned to the bot. I would have to believe there is another addon involved, or the multiple account addon is at fault.

He was correct its another addon causing the issue, but not the one he mentioned, its actually dbtech shop.

This add-on does not extend the thread creator service in any way, nor does it interface with that add-on. This is why I need more details.

Sorry, but I don't have the skills required to extend my explanation.

Ozzy said your welcome to have the form addon for testing.

If you have points accumulation turned on in the Shop mod, then that would generate a IP log entry. This is working as intended, because the Shop mod interfaces with the Thread entity and not the Thread Creator service when adding points.

I'll keep this ticket open, but please bear in mind that this would be a change that would benefit practically no-one other than yourself (I don't recall anyone else ever being concerned with the IP address records of a bot user). Furthermore, this change would have every chance to introduce new bugs in the software (the currency gain is very stable and thoroughly tested in the current release version).

For these two reasons, I do not consider this a bug and I cannot give this the same level of priority as I would an actual defect in the software. I will change it in a future version, but the next release version is already locked.

I hear your frustration, I ask for your patience and understanding.

If you have a use case that demonstrates logging IPs to a bot user presents significant challenges to the administration of your forum, please feel free to share it and I will re-evaluate the priority accordingly.

Thank you.

It's has problems with multiple accounts detection, constant false reports.

Will put my renewal on hold.

I was able to implement & test this change to the point where I believe it's stable enough to release, so this change is implemented in v6.1.3 :)
