Bug Database Error

Woke up this morning to three emails telling me that I have a database error;

Database error in DragonByte SEO 2.0.11:

Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

You need to edit your my.cnf file and double the amount of maximum allowed connections. DBSEO needs to open a new MySQL connection, and as a result, your max connections must be increased.

Here is what my host has told me.;

Hi Cory,

The max_connections is already set to the maximum value possible in the shared server.

If the connections are timing out, this can be a bug that doesn't close the opened connections.

First of all, that's a lie. They are artificially limiting your amount of connections in order to upsell you on a VPS or dedicated server, under the guise of "server stability".

Secondly, you can inspect whether there are open, unclosed connections if you have access to phpMyAdmin. Simply click the "processes" tab and if you see a very large list of "Sleep" status connections, then there's an issue somewhere.

Lastly, DBSEO closes all its connections on script termination. If you do have a connection leak, then DBSEO is not the cause. The reason why the error claims to be from DBSEO, is because DBSEO opens its MySQL connection before vBulletin does.

I do have access to phpMyAdmin but I do not a "process" tab.
I will contact the host again.

Host has agreed to increase connections. This morning I had no database error emails.
