Question 404 error

I tried looking through previous questions but nothing resolved the issue. After installing DBSEO on a clean vb4.2.5 installation, I followed the rules for .htaccess and for friendly URL's. After Setting this, I am getting a 404 error "The requested URL was not found on this server." when trying to open a forum. I am using a LAMP stack with 2 virtual hosts. One runs a wordpress site and the other runs VB4. Is there anything special I need to do? Both site files are kept in separate directories with my forum using a sub-domain.
