I started off with w3schools.com, i used it for about a year, but i found it was not that helpful as it doesn't really have any exercises. But i did learn a lot.
I have been using codecademy.com for a year now, and it's much better than most sites i've found, they have more of an interactive way to help you learn with plenty of exercises.
Unfortunately if you want to do projects you have to get a pro account which is over 200usd. it's a little out of my price range at the moment. Maybe in the future. They got rid of the php course which was my favourite. So for now i am trying the html and javascript course until they bring back the php course
learning programming is hard and requires a lot of time. This is probably the hardest thing i've tried to learn
