How can I ignore special characters in a thread title such as !&$ and apostrophes?

Right now, the word Chevy's is showing up in the thread url as: chevy-s-

What's the value of the Filter Non-Latin Characters setting? Try setting it to Replace or Remove :)

It's set to remove latin characters. If I change it to replace, or keep - all of my forum urls break.

One of the problems that I'm noticing is that a thread title such as:

#@*^%4)!! Headlight Doors won't close

....yielded a URL of:

/110779-@*%5E%4-headlight-doors-wont-close.html

...prior to installing DBSEO.

The URL is now:

110779-4-headlight-doors-wont-close.html

...which shows as a 404 error in Google Webmaster Tools. Should I just leave it alone and clear the error in Webmaster Tools - or is there a setting I should change?

Could you please create and PM me with a temporary FTP and AdminCP account?

For security reasons, we recommend you create a new FTP account only for DBTech support, then disable or delete it after we have both confirmed the issue has been solved and there are no further issues.

The same applies to AdminCP accounts; they should ideally be temporary accounts created for us only. If we have created an account on your site already, you can optionally boost that account to Administrator and then de-admin this account once the issue has been solved.

If you use a .htaccess password protection for your AdminCP directory, it is recommended that you create a new authorised user for DBTech and remove this user once the issue has been solved.

Please test any temporary accounts you create to ensure that the FTP account has access to the forum files, and that the AdminCP account can access the administrative controls for the product we are assisting you with.

Ensuring this is all in order before submitting the information will significantly speed up the process of assisting you. We will alert you via PM if there's any issues with the login information you have provided.

When sending the PM, for your security you should also un-tick the "Save a copy in my Sent Items folder" checkbox. When the access details have been received, we will delete the PM from our inbox. Ensuring you have not kept a copy of the PM reduces the risk of security breaches.

Thank you for helping us debug our products and allowing us to assist you, we appreciate it :D

I've looked into this on your site, as a follow up question: When you said "previously the URL was x", do you mean the vB4 mod_rewrite Friendly URLs?

I have the same problem with the percent character (%).
The fix is the same, you'll need to change the setting to Remove or Replace Non-Latin Characters :)

I'm not sure. I previously had VBSEO installed. I then installed DBSEO, imported the VBSEO settings and removed all instances of VBSEO from my site.

I haven't touched any other settings.

Can you paste me the full URL that's showing as 404 on GWT, from your example earlier?

To be honest, the easiest thing to do would be to wait it out. Eventually, those old URLs will be removed from Google's index, and the new URLs will take their place, so the errors will no longer appear.

If it's been ~a week since this started happening, check your Google Analytics and see if you've noticed a measurable difference in traffic. If your traffic hasn't gone down, and your bounce rates haven't gone up (by a statistically significant amount, so more than 5%), then this doesn't really affect your site in any negative way.

Let me know what you find :)
