Question Improve thank-click speed

Hi there

I already read some other posts about the speed. But I think some of them had Database issues or something else but what my users complain is the "visual" speed compared with AJAX Post Thank You hack. If a user clicks on thanks, it takes between 300-1100 ms only for the server response (tests with FireBug). Also if I do some tests on dragonbyte-tech.com it takes about 1 second just for the response.

Giving a thank is take about 1000ms. Removing one takes about 350ms. (10 tests on the same post with thank and remove thank).

Are there any tipps how I can improve it or do you have some ideas for a next release to improve this?

Maybe it is also important: I disabled the option to reload the whole postbit. Just the number that's enough for us.

Regards,
Marco

Unfortunately this cannot be done. It most likely takes a long time if your dbtech_thanks_entry table is huge, and your database is on the same server as the web server.

Our thanks_entry table has only 315971 entries. Is this already too much? Even vbulletin itself doesn't need so much time to load a full thread view ;-) :D

It's possible your MySQL server is not set up for optimal performance, this is not something we'd be able to change on our end.

The APTL tables have been optimised to the point where forums with millions upon millions of rows in the APTL tables do not experience any performance detriment, at this time I'm not aware of any further optimisations that can be done.

Yes it could be that our mysql server is not setting up correctly but:
- Only thank commands takes so long - other vbulletin pages doesn't need so long
- Even on this forum the thanks takes very long (about 1 second)

That's the reason why I asked here. I'm not sure at the moment if I should invest some time and on which part... DB, Webserver, etc. So if you have some more hints, I would try them.

If your forum is large enough to warrant it, I would recommend having a separate server for your database. We run such a setup here @ DBTech :)

Thank you Fillip H.

I'm not sure If I will change it. When I look at your system which takes even longer for a thank you click as ours and you're using already a separate DB then it makes no sense to change our environment. :-) or maybe I miss something? :)

The fact that we have way more than the recommended amount of custom modifications installed also helps contribute to long loading times.

As the question has been answered, I'll close this ticket :)
