This is actually already a feature, I've simply forgotten to add it to the feature list.

The implemented feature sends out generic messages about inactivity. Thats not the requested feature. Its related, but not the same.

My suggestion is to let members mark another members profile / member card to let the member know that he/she is missed. Optimally, an optional short personal message can be entered. To prevent spam, this would require a permission and either moderator approval or a check against urls.

Then send the absent member an email that member A, B, C are missing them, with the text by those members.

Example email:

Dear Alfa1,

You have not visited mysite.com for some time. Our members are missing you dearly. We hope all is well with you. The following members would love to hear back from you:

Hey man, how have you been. Check in soon?

Yo dude. Whats up these days? Where are you?

Please let us know how you are on https://www.mysite.com/
To contact your friends you can find their profiles here: Fillip and 21515.

The main difference here is that the member receives a very personal unique message to come back, which is far more compelling effective than a generic inactivity message. The generic inactivity message is much more likely to be marked as spam.

That is an awesome suggestion @Alfa1 -- I second that ... because it allows the membership to also help to entice someone back to the forum. Love it.

I would love to see this implemented. I'm not using the inactivity reminder functionality, because its not personal enough and members will see it as spam.

I have an old board. My members post to users their profile asking them how they are. Members get an email notification about it, but they don't see the email or forget to visit. Having a system for it and being able to send out reminders would bring members back.
