Bug Old username displayed in convos sent by another user when using Username Change item

After using the Username Change item to change a username, the old username is displayed with conversations that were started by another user. If the conversation was started by the changed username user, the new name is displayed correctly.

In the example below, User Test / User Test 2 / User Test 3 are all the same user and account ID with name changes. User Test 3 is the latest change and the current username.

It has crossed my mind that this could be a XF bug, not a Shop bug, but it feels like a pretty obvious error to be in the XF core so I thought I'd check with you first.

Actually nevermind maybe, using the rebuild conversations tool has resolved the issue, so I take it this is a XF core issue then?

Although if by any chance this is a Shop issue and can be resolved outside of using the rebuild tool, please let me know because on our live forum we're likely to have hundreds of thousands of conversations, so I don't know how practical rebuilding will be haha.

I will inspect whether XF uses something other than a plain update to change user name. It’s likely this could be a core XF issue, though.

How long did you wait to check the conversations? When a username is changed, XF calls the "User Rename Cleanup" service to run in the background. It does rename user names in conversations, though it could take a while to occur.

Hmm.. not that long, but at least 15 minutes probably. I've made another username change test that I won't touch any rebuild functions on to see what happens. I do get the feeling this probably is solely a XF issue after all but thank you for looking into it anyway :)

If you have database access, you can also check the xf_job table directly after making a username change to see if it adds the UserRenameCleanUp job in there.

You can try this both with admin username changes and in DB Shop.

It's been about a day and the username hasn't updated so I don't think the cleanup job solves that. (haven't been able to check the DB though) Thanks for looking into it anyway though, I'll just chalk this up to XF!
