Question Missing Avatars

Could you please create and PM me with a temporary FTP and AdminCP account?

For security reasons, we recommend you create a new FTP account only for DBTech support, then disable or delete it after we have both confirmed the issue has been solved and there are no further issues.

The same applies to AdminCP accounts; they should ideally be temporary accounts created for us only. If we have created an account on your site already, you can optionally boost that account to Administrator and then de-admin this account once the issue has been solved.

If you use a .htaccess password protection for your AdminCP directory, it is recommended that you create a new authorised user for DBTech and remove this user once the issue has been solved.

Please test any temporary accounts you create to ensure that the FTP account has access to the forum files, and that the AdminCP account can access the administrative controls for the product we are assisting you with.

Ensuring this is all in order before submitting the information will significantly speed up the process of assisting you. We will alert you via PM if there's any issues with the login information you have provided.

When sending the PM, for your security you should also un-tick the "Save a copy in my Sent Items folder" checkbox. When the access details have been received, we will delete the PM from our inbox. Ensuring you have not kept a copy of the PM reduces the risk of security breaches.

Thank you for helping us debug our products and allowing us to assist you, we appreciate it :D

Not sure if this has been since the initial install but looks like we lost everyone's avatars with all of them now displaying a black X.

The properties for my image:
http://www.hostboard.com/forums/avatars/steven-3.gif?dateline=1306470781

the URL to my profile:
View Profile: Steven - HostBoard

Hopefully we can get these restored :)
This appears to be a problem with your database. I turned off DBSEO's avatar rewrite and this issue persists. I have confirmed that it is the actual, physical avatar data that the browser is fed from the database that's the cause of the problem, but there is where my ability to diagnose the issue ends.

I strongly recommend you immediately stop storing images (& attachments, if you do at the moment) in the database, as it adds another layer of failure (which you appear to have hit). It's very likely that all your avatars are permanently corrupted and cannot be recovered, but I don't know for sure.

While attempting to debug this issue for you, your site stopped responding. Pages load indefinitely, with no content being displayed. I recommend you inspect your server logs (86.188.235.253 is my current IP address) and/or reboot your server to resolve this issue.

I would also recommend that you back up all your custom BB Code, then remove them from the system completely. If the WYSIWYG issue no longer appears, then one of your custom BBCode is the culprit. If it still happens, let me know and I will have another look.

Well this is bad... Thank you or taking the time to look into this. I am going to turn this over to my developer and see what magic he can preform. If we need any assistance pertaining to a DB product we will reach back out to you.

After about 2 hours of testing, the issue actually was a white space was some how placed in front of <?php in the config.php file. Once removed everything was working as it should.

Interesting, I would have thought this would produce a "headers already sent" error message when viewing image.php

That being said, while most of what I said in my previous post turned out to be false, one fact remains: If you store images in the file system, this kind of issue won't affect the images :)

As this ticket has received no further replies, I'll close it :)

If you have any further questions or issues, please feel free to post a new support ticket. Thanks!
