As an Admin I'm not getting any notifications when someone made a group and needs it approved.
also, when it comes to media gallery it's not letting me select any gallerys

Sorry, I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. No such feature exists and as far as I know, is not advertised to exist. You also don't receive an alert or notification when a post is awaiting moderation, nor a thread, nor XFMG items, [...]

However, if you have the appropriate permissions, you will see the number in the navbar increase here:

This is not a bug. You need to create a new category with this configuration:

No not a post I'm talking about a whole new group. How else would I know I need to approve a group?

I could very well have it setup bad, but when someone makes a new group it says awaiting for approval. Just like I want it to. However I get no notifications, and the only way to make the group show up is if I go to the group listings in the Admin CP and mark it visible

Edit your user group permissions and give yourself the highlighted permission:
