Question Updates for Older XF (2.2)

I notice that you guys have not provided an updates for the older Xenforo 2.2 or any other versions for basically 1 year now.

I personally haven't moved to XF2.3 because it requires me to get all new themes again and re-deploy all my changes and customizations. Most add-on providers are still providing services for XF2.2 and many below that.

Hi there,

Unfortunately I don't have the bandwidth to support multiple XenForo versions. While I understand and sympathise with your position, supporting multiple versions of XenForo would ultimately lead to an increase in the number of bugs and less time spent actually adding features.

This effect is exponentially increased when you consider breaking changes such as XenForo 2.3's dropping of jQuery. Maintaining compatibility with 2.2 is an exercise in frustration - I speak from personal experience.

The short version: Once 2.4 goes into Beta, 2.3 versions are bugfix-only (and any in-progress feature updates will be finished & released for 2.3). Once 2.4 is fully released, 2.3 versions go into security fixes only mode.

I know this is not the ideal answer or the answer you were hoping for, and for that I can only apologise.

Well that is quite unfortunate, I know that this won't change your mind but honestly I would support the current version and previous version at a minimum. Just shard the codebases so you can apply the changes to each one.
I understand though that you have lots of addons and potentially are the only developer. I am in the same boat on my own platform and this is why I don't have the bandwidth to redo my site basically every year to the new Xenforo version these days.

That would nearly double the development time, since taking advantage of new features in new XF versions meant I couldn’t just copy and paste the code.

Most addons get updated to the newest version and most themes are also updated, so it wouldn’t take that long for you to install those updates

I keep all my addons upto date except Dragonbyte since you guys are the only provider that only supports the newest Xenforo.
The themes aren't as simple of a situation because ours has been customized. So its many hours of work in redoing all the customizations and validating it.
