I was thinking it would be very nice if users could update their status from the sidebar, isntead of having to go to their profile. Also, maybe their could be a way to just allow a custom placement of the status updater. So we can just choose where we would like to place it, like for example...

sounds fine to me. Just double clicking should work, as long as its clear how to edit it? Maybe a pencil icon can pop up next to it, or just have the words edit like his version
