Bug Problem with Registration

I just upgraded to VB 4.2.5 and get this error when people click on the activation link

I've seen several posts with this exact same issue but no resolution. We've had a problem with a blank page but after installing php 7.0 and vb 4.2.5 I can actually see the error message.
Disabling this mod solves the issue however I'd rather see a resolution.

This is likely due to a conflict with another modification you have installed. In either case, I've added a potential hotfix for this to v1.2.3. If you re-download this version and re-upload the files, could you let me know if this works for you?

I found a temporary work around by disabling the welcome PM newbies get.
