Bug Clicking Activity Feed Causes Crash

After clicking activity and then clicking activity feed http://i.imgur.com/VFiGabF.png the whole site seems to go down, something clearly takes up a huge amount of processor.
this only lasts for about 30 sec but it is still quite significant

I tested this with 3.0.2 and then upgraded to 3.0.3 and the problem still persists

We included an option to turn the feed off for this exact reason - at this time I don't know of a way to improve the performance of that page.
