Question Item Field Usage

What's the use of shop's item fields? We have an option in ACP to add item field but it's not clear why we need to.

Item fields can be used to display additional information about each individual item. For instance, if you wanted to write detailed additional information, but don't want the main item info page to be an exercise in mouse scrolling to get to the page footer, you can create a new custom field that has its own tab.

That being said, that feature was lifted from eCommerce during the item rework some number of versions ago, and since it was fairly easy to copy it, I decided to just do so in case someone had a use for it
