When a bouced email is received, what exactly happens? Does it change the receive admin emails to "no"...are they unsubscribed from all lists? Does the system try to notify the member of the problem at all?

Does vb mail affect any of the existing email notifications coming from vb? I don't see any changes when I receive a notification of a rereply to a thread in my email...

On an unrelated note, what is this "auto save" that I see when I am posting anyway?

Once the number of bounced emails reach the threshold you configure in Bounced Mail settings, it will turn off all email-related features in vBulletin (3rd party addons not supported) and will unsubscribe them from everything.

For more information, please see the included manual (also linked in a sticky topic in this sub-forum) :)

That's a feature in the CKEditor of vBulletin 4.1.4+, it allows you to restore the last post you were working on should something happen (like a browser crash, loss of internet connection etc).

Does the user receive a pm or some sort of notice of a problem when they log back in? How does the user get back on the lists if they update their email?

Should notification emails be coming through as a html email now with bbcodes formatted in the email?

vBMail unsubscribes users from those mails, but it in no way, shape or form alters the current vBulletin mails :)
