Question Questions! Google Keywords, Crawl Errors, Meta Tags & Descriptions, rel=nofollow

I've been doing a lot of checking into webmaster tools, and I notice the keyword content for my forums, the way google sees it, is pretty lousy!

Many of the keywords are in the postbit display or footer (examples are: posts, threads, vbulletin, profile, avatar, private, location, country, code, dragonbyte) so I have a few questions.

1. Is there anyway to exclude those words from google including them as important or relevant to my website? If not is it possible to add a work around to the Dragonbyte SEO?

2. In the DBSEO control panel, is it better to have meta description use the thread title and post, or use the default one? (I now have tons of URL errors that are "too short" for meta descriptions in webmaster tools).

3. As I had mentioned before, I had deleted quite a few threads, thinking I was cleaning up my forum, so now each day I am requesting google remove the URL for those threads as they come up in the crawl errors. Does this actually work? Many times it is a URL I have already requested be removed. Or am I just wasting my time each day? (about 100 a day) Some are duplicate of the same thread, the old showthread.php URL and then the new rewritten URL.

4. In DBSEO control panel, Is adding rel=nofollow good or bad? I am reading conflicting information regarding this. Should I allow follow links that are related to bulldogs, even if I am not getting a link back?

5. On all of my forums, I am getting a soft 404 since installing for /images/buttons and /images/misc, not sure what I should do about this?

Thanks for your help as always!

There's no way to stop Google from seeing those keywords, but as long as the meta keywords are still working as intended, there should be no issue.

Those aren't error messages, they're guidelines :)

I'd say you should use the thread title and post.

I couldn't say whether it works, or whether Google just naturally stops crawling them after a while.

This depends on whether the majority of your external links are related to bulldogs or not - short of whitelisting individual domains nofollow on external links is an all-or-nothing type deal. Personally I believe you should add nofollow, and whitelist specific domains that you trust that your users link to that's related to your site's content.

This is what Google has to say about soft 404 errors: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/181708

Thanks for your advice! Very much appreciated.

Yeah some of these threads that are coming up as crawl errors are literally from the early days of my site when I had vb translate installed, because some of them are in other languages and are early numbered posts. I'm going to run a 5 day test to see if I get repeat URL's before I continue to exclude anymore.

So for no follow, adding rescues websites to the whitelist would be good, for example? We do link heavily to the rescues in our adoption section.

One last question Fillip H., I am getting an error message from Google Analytics. "Property French Bulldog News is receiving data from redundant hostnames".

I have DBSEO set to no www. in the subdomain style so it should be giving a 301 redirect right? This message information basically states that I need one.

I'm unable to login with the credentials provided to me previously, but it seems like your Forum URL setting in the global vBulletin options is set to include www. If that is the case, the no-www setting in DBSEO will have no effect.

Actually this is on one of my other forums-- French Bulldog News French Bulldog News Forums - French Bulldog News Forum

I am also getting it for Desert Sky Bulldogs - Desert Sky Bulldogs - English Bulldog Breeder in Arizona, but I don't have DBSEO plugin enabled because it did not work.

I recommend adding this to your .htaccess file:
Code:
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^frenchbulldognews\.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://frenchbulldognews.com/$1 [L,R=301]

If you add it above the DBSEO rewrite rules, directly beneath RewriteEngine On, it should work :)
