Strange phenomenon - would appreciate any light you can shed on this!

When I navigate to: Quick Links > VBSignatures

I see this message:

Have you made sure you uploaded the contents of the upload folder using drag and drop, and not tried to manually place the files in the correct folder?

Furthermore, make sure you've used an actual FTP app and not cPanel's FileManager or similar.
