In another thread I mentioned that the current thank you mod was... kinda crappy.

If you look at vb.org, the author of that mod hasn't been seen in 2 months and the forum is riddled with support issues that go unanswered.

It seems to me also that the mod is a big bloated for what it does (could just be my inexperience though).

Anyway, a nice clean solution would probably do wonders for you guys. MANY people use that mod and the only other one out there is bundled with other things and costs about 45 bucks. I think 45 bucks is a bit steep to say "thanks" to someone.

The idea here though is that it seems to be a fairly simple mod. Your best bet would be to release it for free to drive more support towards your products. If you didn't want to do that, then a minimal charge. If it's for some reason a difficult thing to do, the I guess the higher costs make sense, but I don't think it would be.

However, please don't do this until the activity mod and shoutbox are updated with the various feature requests. ;)

Here's a quick rundown off the top of my head.

Should allow for the hack to enabled per forum.

usergroups allowed/excluded from using the thank you mod

Should display a "thank you" link at the bottom of each post, next to the reply buttons.

Once clicked, it should add a thankyou to the post, showing the username of the person that thanked you. This should be a small (low footprint) area under the post listing all those who have thanked someone for that post). A mouse over should show the date and time the thanks was given. Clicking the username of the person that created the thank you should take you to their profile and a thank you page (more on that next).

The users profile thank you page should be it's own tab. On the tab it should list all of the thank you's the person has given in what threads, the thread titles should be linked to the actual thread/post the thank you was given in.

It should also list the threads the person was thanked in by other people with the same above features.

The postbit should show something like "Thanks Given: 23<br/>Thanks Received: 41" Each of these could be linked to the above profile link and the respective type of thanks (given/received).

Ok, that's it off the top of my head. =)

Yeah I can't think of anything else to add. I think Trekkan has come up with the best features for the best thank you mod ever. Great ideas Trekkan.

Ohh and before you guys do something like this... please make it so I can give the same medal to someone multiple times first. ;)

Thanks! Now... if I could just figure out all of this vB specific coding, I could write the mods I want (that no one else appears to. How I would LOVE to have the guild member management mod I designed...). hehhe

Ohh one thing I forgot is admin functions for doing things like removing a thank you, etc. Also maybe let users remove their own thanks. (Saw this on the other one).

i never quite understood the use of the post thank you hack, to me it was always a little pointless, i know it was designed to stop people posting "thanks for that" or whatever but i still think its a feature hardly useful in much way. but thats just my two cents. hee hee

=P regardless Neo, What the people want the people get =P

This has been added to the schedule - it'll be produced when we can squeeze it in =)

Sweet!!

And yeah, I kinda felt that way myself Neo, at first. Then I installed it. And people can easily click a "thank you" instead of creating a thread with a ton of posts that just say "thx" or something and you have to scroll through it to find any "useful" posts.

this way, all thanks are on the post that was thanked, etc. It's also a nice way for people to be recognized for the things they do, that might not normally stand out on a forum. I like to think of it as a mod that cleans up the forums, and drives incentive for my members to do things for others.

in a way to me that would make sense but i just disliked all the information that post thank you put into the postbit, looked messy. but i guess you can edit it all to your liking anyway, plus if customers want it, they shalt have it. one mans junk is another mans treasure....or something like that XD

Oh I just thought of something to add to this mod. Make it where "thanks" can either be in the first post of the thread or any post in the thread as someone later on down the line may post something useful and someone can thank that person. I have seen versions of this mod that only allows the first post to be thanked none of the others. Trekkan may have said it, but I don't remember.
