Would very much like to control the listing order of files in each category/subcategory. The way it is now the files are listed in the order that they are uploaded and we have no control over changing this. Plese make it so we can change the listing order of the files.

Yes, that was January 2013. Is it any nearer? It seems like an obvious no-brainer.

I'm trying to decide whether to buy the pro version of this, or use Downloads II (I currently have them both installed and am trying them both out). Information will help me decide.

We don't normally provide ETAs for feature updates until such a time as we start working on it. When we do plan out v2.2 of vBDownloads, this is certain to be on the shortlist at least, though :)

Cosmic decides when we run mod updates.

vBDownloads received THREE major version upgrades (v1.4 -> v2.0 -> v2.1) in the span of ~3 months, which is more than most of our other modifications.

The reason I ask is that you sell time-period based licenses which include upgrades. That makes me want to know what I'm buying - I'm not a gambling man by nature, and I won't buy a product which is "An extra $30 and you MIGHT get unspecified feature upgrades in an unspecified period of time if your license doesn't expire first".

When selling extended period upgrade licenses, a certain level of transparency is needed to make it not a Las Vegas style slot machine!

Heya,

Just popping in to explain the license structure etc. We run on an agile development platform, which lets us quickly and easily respond to the wants and needs of our customers. That means if a lot of customers want a certain feature or improvement in a mod, we can schedule around it to get it done quickly.

If we used concrete roadmaps, even if 50 customers wanted a feature, they would have to wait X months for that mod to come up again on the roadmap before the feature could be implemented. Traditional development structures like that are extremely inefficient for rapid iteration products like we develop at DBTech.

Thankfully your license can be used even after it expires, so you can wait and only update after the feature/improvement you want is implemented if you so choose. While we would prefer to only sell lifetime licenses, our customers asked for the three month and one year license lengths to be implemented, which is why they exist.

When you buy a license you're paying for the product as is now, and X months/years of security updates and bugfixes. The extra features are just a bonus :)

Well, with all due respect, that may be what you're selling, but that *isn't* the value decision process which I, the buyer, went through. The later features are a major part of my purchasing decision; they are more than 'just a bonus' to me.

I ended up buying the shortest license. I did that because, while I was interested in a potential later feature update, I don't know if it will occur within a given timeframe. I could buy an extra X months in the hope that the feature would arrive in that time period, but it's essentially a gamble.

That may or may not matter to you; that's fair enough. But if you're interested in why I bought the cheapest, shortest license and didn't choose to spend more: that's why.

It's not a big deal. Just explaining my buying motivations. And I certainly don't claim to speak for anyone but myself!
