Additon of "(Private)" Forums and now users are unable to read numerous posts

I believe it has to do with your new ticketing system but now a lot of posts are not viewable to anyone other than the poster and mods I believe.

Anyone looking up an issue they have and another user has posted a ticket about it, they'll never be able to see it or if a solution has already been found and implemented. I use to use the Chat mod to see what the latest issues are now it seems more than half the links there I do not have permission to even read. This is greatly cutting back on the usefulness of this site.

With so many new pages requiring additional permissions to view your percentage of pages Google will have access to will be dropping quickly and affecting your rank also.

Is this all working as you intended?

Agree 100%. Before we could see some fixes and made them self - that was not necessary to post same problem. Now we spend more time to open some posts and get error messages "no permissions" - on this site is more and more complicate ...

Only support tickets where the "Is Private" box has been ticked will be posted there, and of course anyone has the option of posting there manually.

This was implemented in direct feedback to response we received where customers were claiming that a lack of option to keep their information private was hindering their ability to purchase products from us, and since we do not offer email or PM support (which is even more restrictive than threads), this was the only option available to us.

It is indeed working as intended :)

I can say, at least for myself (an already established customer), that this greatly takes away from what I've come to expect on this site.

I also know if I was unfamiliar with your site and came to it now for the first time only to be greeted by numerous permission errors I would be hesitant to make any purchases. I believe there must be a better way ...hiding all external links, etc.

I have a feeling that allowing users to privatize all reports will have a much more negative impact on sales from your already established business and customers than any kind of positive one gained from any new sales from those who wouldn't purchase previously just because they were worried about anonymity.

I guess only time will tell.

What permissions errors are you referring to? As far as I'm aware, there are no references to the private threads anywhere. If this is not the case, do let me know.

It's not about the links, as we already do allow people to anonymise their forum URLs, and a lot of customers already anonymised their error reports by editing out their domain names.

Private thread titles still show to all in the Chat box (which is where I usually look to read the latest posts). You only find out its private when you actually click on the link in the Chat box and are then told you don't have permission to view it.
