It wasn't a request. If you continue trolling our customers your support privileges will be revoked. You receiving support and the right to post on these forums is predicated on you behaving like a mature adult. If that's problematic for you, I suggest finding somewhere else for your forum software needs.

If you have any issues with any mods, post them in the support forums and they will be taken care of

You mean't quotes from xf..Your in the wrong thread..Now go make your own..Thats a good a boy..

Comments like that are trolling/insulting our customers. There is no need for them and they're not welcome on our forums. Stay civil and keep comments like that to yourself and there won't be any issue, it's not hard to do.

The issue isn't the conversation going off topic, it's on the off topic area, it drifting isn't an issue.

You telling customers what to do and being rude to them is the issue. Trekkan didn't insult you. Hopefully that clears things up for you - in case it doesn't.

1) Don't tell other customers what to do please.
2) Do not insult, belittle or be rude to other customers please.

Its off topic Cosmic and got nothing todo with customers..The thread is again related to a VB topic not your site..

Take a step back and get out of the "OFF TOPIC" forum buddy..

So... back on topic before it gets locked: My biggest problem with updates is losing URLs. Right now almost everything I have is set up through vbseo. The one thing that really isn't is DownloadsII, which I have to keep online and using the same format for the time being. All the links before I switched to vb (a lot of them are still on active forums and are still used) no redirect to my site's home, which makes a lot of people think those links are dead now. I don't want to introduce a new generation of dead links to my site - it doesn't help when trying to build community.

Also, I prefer talking about vb5 and such over here than to the vbulletin.org or .com sites. I feel like I can get more informed responses over here.

vB did an overhaul of the URLs in v4, and they seem to work pretty well. I don't really see that changing (again) in v5. And since you are using vBSEO, it should really be even less of an issue.

So did you get the email..

vBulletin's Lead Developer Speaks About vBulletin 5 Connect

As we look ahead to the launch of vBulletin 5 Connect later this year, our lead developer Kevin Sours recently posted some details on the technical architecture of the new product. You can read his post and the subsequent discussion here.

We've also included it below for your convenience. Thank you for choosing vBulletin.

In his post, Kevin wrote:

"Hi Guys,

I wanted to take a moment to talk about some of the changes that are coming up with vB5.

One of the big things is trying to separate out the presentation from the backend. To that end we've written a new API for vB5 that is much more complete. Moreover, since the vB5 front end uses the new API exclusively, we guarantee that if the front end can do it then it can be done via the API. The end goal is that extensions to vB5 should be able to work the same way that vB5 itself works, with the hope of making it easier to do bigger and better things with vBulletin. With the addition of front end controllers and improvements to our template language the result is that we've got an MVC system that will allow us to build things out in a more modular fashion.

Another big advantage to the API is it provides a rigorous interface for automated unit testing. We've been adapting our development processes around this and we've been happy with the results. This should pay off down the road with fewer regressions and better overall stability.

We've developed a default content model so that we are no longer handling similar kinds of content completely differently. The main advantage is that when we roll features out for content they will much easier to roll out across app instead of having to implement it separately for forums, blogs, and social groups. We've also done a considerable amount of work to isolate database access with an eye towards supporting databases other than MySQL. These internal improvements have paid off some in 5.0 already and I expect them to really help us farther down the line in the 5 series.

Obviously we'll be able to share more details as we get closer to launch, but I wanted to give you guys a heads up with some of what we're working on."

Kevin Sours

I'm not really sure why they have mass emailed it to customers,It looks more like a coder to coder conversation..And being the API is exclusive, I'm still no wiser to why they sent it to me.

Yes I also got it, seems like a marketing strategy to drum up interest for those people that don't know about it.

Recently a good friend with a lot of forum experience said to me that save for nitch sites, most discussion that used to happen on forums now happens on reddit-type places, or social networks. I'm starting to think vBulletin thinks this too, and wants to get as tied in to social networking as possible.

I bought 4 as soon it came out. What a mistake that was. It was full of bugs and issues. I won't be moving onto 5 until it is completely stable.

What I realy want to see there is that the user login name is different than the display name... That would (in my eyes) increase security a little bit...

Agreed, not to mention I could "sell" username changes in the shop and not worry about the underlying stuff.

Ohh and I could then torment some of my more "fun" users with name changes and they could still login. ;)

It's been in place for a couple of years..It's called facebook connect..

Not everyone wants, has or needs a Facebook account. A solution built into vB would help those people as well as offer new functionality.
