just saw this via twitter:
Announcing the Beta Launch of vBulletin 5 Connect
We are pleased to announce the launch of vBulletin 5 Connect beta today, which is available both as a free live demo and as a download for those purchasing the vBulletin 5 Connect license. The public demo of vBulletin 5 Connect is available at:

https://www.vbulletin.com/vb5demo/

We're making this beta version of vBulletin 5 Connect available now for sites interested in exploring this early version of the software, to start work on styling, plug-ins, etc. While this beta version can be used on new sites, some functionality and content of existing sites won't yet be ported over. As such it may be advisable to upgrade sites to this beta version in a staging environment only and not in production. As we've previously announced, the product features:

A re-architected Core which provides easier customization and display layer extensibility through a central API

Dynamic new Site Builder tool with page templates, drag-and-drop page configuration and in-line site editing

Modernized UI designed to encourage user engagement and content creation

Customizable content modules that provide enhanced discovery, engaging users into deeper site visits

Improved social functionality including redesigned user profiles, comments functionality, an integrated messaging hub, social content curation and real-time updates

Integrated mobile-optimized version for use on smartphones, ensuring these visitors stay and return

Integrated monetization from VigLink

Built-in SEO to maximize search traffic

The price of vBulletin 5 Connect is $249. The vBulletin 5 Connect license includes the beta release and all future updates within the 5.x series, as well as the ability to download past versions of the product. Given the robust functionality of vBulletin 5 Connect, this pricing delivers significantly better value than any other community software option.

Additionally, three discounts are available on vBulletin 5 Connect. These are additive and customers may qualify for any or all of these discounts, which include:

ALL Purchases made by 9/30/12 (either new and upgrade) - $25 discount (use coupon code CONNECT during checkout)

Upgrades from vBulletin 3.x or 4.x - $40 discount

Upgrades of vBulletin 4 licenses purchased on or after 6/1/12, which are upgraded no later than 12/5/12 - $35 discount (will be reflected in the shopping cart for any license qualifying for this discount)

vBulletin 5 Connect makes significant advances in the capabilities of online community websites, and is clearly the premier platform on which to build such sites. We're proud of all we've been able to accomplish in vBulletin 5 Connect and we will continue to invest in its growth going forward.
Helping You Build Better Communities,

Your vBulletin Support Team

Well, maybe I'm stupid, but already (paid) to upgrade my 2 licenses, but currently only 1 seems to have received this upgrade...
(my discount: 2x40 & 2x 25 = -130$ (so, $368,00 USD instead of $498,00 USD)

I am looking into it for my site as well. Just need to figure it all out with the other guy I run it with. I played with the demo a little over my lunch break and it seemed to be somewhat slow. Not sure that was because its still in early Beta, first day of the demo and everyone was checking it out, or if its just slow (hope not!).

well i to took the plunge and upgraded my license..although it will be some time before i upgrade my site to it..until then i will continue to run 4.2 outside of using it on a test site..

Yeah I would "NOT" upgrade a live site to the new platform, until it has gone gold, and has been for at least a week, to make sure any bugs are worked out. ;)

I had a dead site and I redid it to 5.. Man what a joke that is.. There is nothing in it and a real pain in the ***.. I can't seem to upload an avator or get the pictures working right.. I have redid the site now going on 4 times.. But the one step makeconfig file works out great..

Oh well I will not be updating TruckingSpace to it but atleast I am trying it out and playing with it to get to know how to mess up the site better.. Haha

Will the arcade on here be converted to work with vb5... ive been looking at the comments on the vb site and its thumbs down for 5 at the moment.

It is not known when any mods will be compatible with vB5 there is to much stuff changing daily to give a proper estimate. But we do have plans to update our mods to vB5 as it is feasible.

I've yet to see anything I like about vB5. The backend might be better in the coding area, but the frontend... no thanks. Looks like hell to me.

So far, I haven't seen anything that is actually "new". Looks like the same stuff as before, just rehashed. Eventually it might end up a good product, but I haven't see anything worth upgrading for and as they only give something like 25-50 discount for upgrading... I have no incentive to hand them another 200 bucks. Not to mention that until the DBT mods I use are upgraded, it's just not going to happen anyway.

One thing that I noticed that I hope isn't a telling thing... they mention their upgraded adminCP.... all they did was change the styles on it a little. If they consider that all awesome and a selling point... that's just kind of sad.

I have just ordered it..... I was having unlimited ticket support with my Publishing Suite with 4.X. Now they say no unlimited ticket support is being offered :(. You ll have to purchase it. That's bad :(
I hope they are ll improve all this till that date I am using 4.2.0 ;) and importantly I am not shifting to vB5 until DBtech Mods are being upgraded to that version.

I simply attempted to access the demo to take a look and this was my experience.

I understand the need for Beta testing but it is surprising that additional testing and fixes were not employed to avoid all the negative feedback. Realistically it will be a significant amount of time before you can take a functional VB4 CMS and even think about VB5.
