Default Extreme lag on large forum.

When using the shoutbox on a large forum with many users the site experiences very heavy lag (even with Optimisation on). Due to this we had to remove the shoutbox and replace it. We now use a converted version of Inferno vBShout without any lag.

If this could be fixed, it would be useful to have functions in the shoutbox for /banlist (lists banned users) and /silencelist (lists silenced users).

We are using the Pro version.

      Thanks

Can you check your settings and ensure that the refresh rate is set as high as on inferno shout, can you also ensure Auto-Idle is on, and that the shoutbox. Lastly can you ensure if you are using vBSEO that vBShout is added to the exceptions - can you also try turning off the active users sidebar on the shoutbox, as that tends to be a bit of a resource hog.

@Belazor will let you know if he has any other recommended settings.

The refresh rate is actually set to 3 seconds (1 less than inferno) and the auto-idle is off, same as inferno. The Active Users sidebar is off as we had the shoutbox like inferno as much as possible.

In that case - beyond the vBSEO exclusion list - there's sadly nothing more that can be done

Well, Decado suggested to use Auto Idle as enabled. I too think that enabling it reduces system resources. Am I wrong? Belazor said that nothing could more could be done, but Enzo-F said he don't use auto idle.

I think Belazor meant that if they person wanted to leave auto idle off (like they have with their current box) there aren't any more resource saving settings to be changed - except changing refresh time from 3 seconds to 4, which should give a 15% or so boost.

If you don't mind me trying here, I was actually experiencing similar issues with my own forums where the resources would just get all eaten up, and it was stated that the root cause of this was the ajax.php file with the forums. Recently, after I updated the shoutbox to 5.4.3, I made some adjustments to the settings, since so much more became available. One particular adjustment was that I turned the context menus off. If you haven't tried already, I would definitely consider it because we haven't had any issues since.

This problem was actually solved by using InnoDB.

Sounds like a good solution, I will try this to try and reduce bandwidth usage.

Just adding @Belazor to this incase he can change things for a future version or otherwise come up with something else. =) Anyway, looks like you got it fixed so that's a good thing =)
