Hi there!

I am running a board where users can buy / sell / trade stuff like videogames / movies / etc.

The board is extremely customized to me needs but the forum software is technically outdated. So I want to switch to vB 4.2.x. Now I am looking for a MOD for the marketplace / buy / sell / trade functionality. So I found Classifieds. Unfortunately there are some features I miss and I have some question I hope you can answer.

So lets start...

1. Multiple item support

When a user wants to sell for example 100 different Blu-ray movies, right now he can list all of the movies in the first post of his thread. Then other users reply to his post asking for a specific title. After discussing price, etc. the topic starter / seller can "trigger" a deal button for each reply to his thread and close a deal with the said user. After that he edits his starting post.

If using Classifieds the seller would have to create 100 ads (one for each movie). Apart from being far too complex there would be no option to sell more than one item the same time to one buyer easily.

So...is there any form of "multiple item support" in the works? So in theory it should be possible that the seller can list more than one item in an ad and the interested buyer can choose some of the items and then place an offer for them. If the seller is ok with the offer he can confirm it to close the deal without closing the whole ad. After completing the trade feedback can be given for every deal that has been closed.

This leads to my next question:

2. Link to forum threads

Is there an option to automatically create a thread in a specific category of the regular forum when creating a classifieds ad with a link to said thread within the just created ad? So buyer und seller can use this automatically created thread to discuss item conditions, price, etc.?

Maybe u have this functionality in the PRO version of classifieds? What again leads to my next question...

3. Differences between PRO and LITE version

Where do I find the differences between the two versions?

I think I would have a few more questions but to start with it would be great to hear from you guys. Let me know if you understand what I am thinking of. I think that there is really no good solution for a buy / sell / trade forum I am running and you would absolutely fill a gap when implementing said features.

Thanks,
Dimitri

Another thing I realized:

Right now you can give permission to different kind of user groups for different categories in the Classifieds section so not all user groups are able to see all / the same categories. Thats just fine but I think there is one problem:

In my opinion a usergroup without permission to see a special category shouldn't be able to see the ads from this category in the listings overview (Classifieds -> View Listings). Unfortunately it does as all the ads are listed under "Items for sale" and "Items Wanted".

So...in my special case I have two usergroups: "Registered" and "Registered 18+". Only users 18 years and older are allowed the 18+ section / categories but right now they would see 18+ listings in the listings overview (as long as they dont choose a category from the menu on the left side).

Thanks for the post. Just had time to get a reply back to you on this... :)

Your first question is interesting... it might be possible, though to be honest, I'm not really sure of the benefit. We're working on user shops in Version 2 (in development at the moment) where a user can list all his items for sale as individual listings. You can click the relist button again to recreate a listing. So in theory what you want is there, except it would be as a normal shop would work... individual listings. In the meantime, if you really needed something like how you describe, you could work around it by encouraging users to list all items available and then allow users to buy and request which specific item they are wanting.

Your second is already in Classifieds pro version where it auto creates a thread in a forum or a post in a single thread.

The third question should be answered here:

We list all the differences between the products in our main product page. We run the Pro version here on the site with most things activated, which should let you see most things in action. :)

You seem to be suggesting a reverse feature of what's implemented, that right? You choose which groups can't see specific listings?

Thanks for the reply!

]To have user shops with individual listings could eventually be a solution.

Regarding your suggestion:

What you mean is that a user (user A) should list an ad containing all of his (for example) 100 movies. Then in the automatically created thread in the forum section potential buyer (user B) and seller (A) can discuss which of the movies are part of the deal. But what kind of listing are you talking about? Buy-it-now? Auction? I don't see yet how that could work.

Thanks for that. I wasnt sure if I had read that before somewhere.

Ill give it a try.

Yes, what I am talking about is this:

Why is someone who is not allowed to see a certain category able to see listings from that category on the listing overview unde "Items for sale" and "Wanted items"? I think if you dont have the permission to see a certain category then you shouldnt be able to see listings from that category.

For me thats a absolutely important criteria because of the legal situation regarding youth protection.

Thanks for taking your time.

I'll take a look at the reverse permissions idea and see if we can work that into version 2. I think it could be useful.

Regarding your additional question about the multiple items, buy-it-now allows for you to create a stock value. You can adjust it up or down. You would be able to purchase an item or items, and then ask the seller via PM (as a PM can be automatically created) for the items you wanted. The listing or forum thread could contain the list of current items if you want to do it that way.

Hope that extra bit helps. :)
