Hi there just a quick question regarding the forum tabs.

I have MULTIPLE sub forums that go quite deep for navigation IE Gaming > Gaming Discussions > First Person Shooters > Counter Strike > Counter Strike: Global Offensive

My problem is I want to create simple forum tabs to ONLY show up with forums I select. IE I want to create a CSGO tab ONLY displaying the Counter Strike: Global Offensive forums but when I select only the Counter Strike Global Offensive forums when I create the tab, it makes the tab view Gaming Discussion and forces user to again click through multiple sub forums to reach their destination.

I hope this makes sense.

If you go to the site listed above, and click on the Gaming Forums Category on the Forums tabs, you will see what I mean. For that I only selected ONE sub forum but it added the entire tree anyway.

Cheers

Thanks for posting. I've double checked this to make sure, but there isn't currently a way to restrict what displays in the way you want. The main problem is the way that vBulletin already decides how to display the forums that are child forums. If there immediate parents aren't added then you have nothing that will display.

I will look into seeing if there is a way to resolve this problem, but I suspect it might require an additional approach to the one we use at the moment to organize the display.

The only solution for now is to organize the structure of your forums differently so as to achieve what you want on the tabs. i.e. instead of:

Gaming Forums > Gaming Discussions > First Person Shooters (FPS) > Counter Strike > Counter Strike Global Offensive (CSGOAU) > CSGO Map Downloads and Discussions > CSGO Deathmatch Maps

Try something like:
Gaming Forums > Counter Strike Global Offensive (CSGOAU) > CSGO Map Downloads and Discussions > CSGO Deathmatch Maps

And then use the tabs to organize the layout to restrict the display to only the games you want (including Counter Strike Global Offensive, Counter Strike 1.6 and Counter Strike: Source). While that will make the full forum list longer, it will mean you get the level of control you want via the tab system.

I will take a look at this and see if there is a way I'm likely to be able to solve the problem and let you know for sure as soon as I can (probably early next week).

Hope that all makes some sense. Nice idea by the way having the gaming layout done as you have. It takes some serious planning to organize. :)

Will start a topic based on this conversation in the Pro Support forum.

Thanks for the kind word on the layout :D
