I am planning on adding many forum sections to my site soon and I wouldn't want it to be a gigantic front page. I was planning on making some forums hidden and simply making a tab to show a hidden forum.
Or here's my idea.
It's kind of different to what the forum tabs is now:
Categories are assigned specific forums. Each forum section MUST be assigned a specific tab or it will not be shown
A table for visual purpose
Category Tab 1Category Tab 2
4, 10, 2, 13, 5, 7, 11

Clicking on Tab 2 will show only those said forums, similar to how tabs work at the moment.
So how will Tabs be addressed? Simple:
Some sections may be bigger than ours, still making it unpleasant to scroll down so much. Tabs can pick forums from only under that category

The way I like this is because, as I said before, I plan to have tons of sections for my forum and I don't want the front page to be so huge. This can address the issue easily and it'll make it organized

If I'm following your idea, I think we can already do most of that within how DFT works at the moment.

You can prevent the 'All' tab showing be unchecking it's active status. You can also assign a default tab for each Category Tab. That would mean that when a user first goes to a Category they automatically get directed to the default tab unless they make a different choice.

And since you can already make as many Category Tabs and AJAX Tabs as you want, you could organize the forums to only appear within certain tabs and categories.

I might have not fully understood what you meant, so feel free to point me in the right direction. If it helps a screenshot illustrating what you want to do might help me fully understand your idea.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming. :)

I think probably for what I'm looking for (with what DB Forum Tabs has to offer right now) is a way to make the All Tab inactive. I seem to not be able to uncheck it.

Hmmm... This reminds me of a problem we had before with the mod. We implemented the 'always on' for the All tab to make sure users had a way of seeing all the forums if they needed to so that they never got 'stuck'.

You could work a way around it by setting the default tab for each category as different to the 'All' tab. You can do this by editing each Category Tab (such as the one Forums which is one of the default category tabs at install) to what you need as the first or automatic tab to load.

You could also uncheck the 'Sticky' status on the All tab and also set it's display order to the end. Alternatively you can set the Default Tab setting (the global one) in the AdminCP > DBTech - Forum Tabs > Settings > DragonByte Tech: DragonByte Forum Tabs - General Settings > Default Tab to a tab other than the 'All' tab. I'd suggest the First in a Category.

Remember that despite all of this the tabs will do two things. First it will always remember the last open tab a user had (unless they are away from the forum for a long time) and each user can set their own 'Default' tab that overrides the ones you set.

Does that help?

I'll look at seeing if there is a way of making some changes to accommodate your idea when I properly sit down and plan the changes for DFT v2 soon.

Thanks for the input.
