Ok, this is also from news discussion forum:

When user registers, he is registered user, with rights given for that usergroup. But, we could have subscriptions to different things, including for example VIP usergroups. And, if we could set that users who registers through invitation could automatically be given certain subscriptions, it could be excellent way to motivate people, and also a way to promote our subscriptions.

For example, we could sell subscription to VIP status, and new users could test it automatically when they register and be a VIP user for first month, week, or whatever period we create. Now registration system doesn't allow something like this to be achieved easily, but it could be achieved.

I thought about it a bit more and it would be great if we could place users in different usergroups with different criteria.

For example, invitation system is one.

But, we could have certain coupons, or other kind of code that we could give in some way to users and upon using that coupon (or code, link, whatever), user gets placed in certain usergroup, or have certain subscriptions upon registering.

This could be very powerful feature in my opinion and very useful too.
