Social groups never took off in vBulletin because it's been poorly implemented. Facebook has shown that groups can not only be popular, but they are now expected.

Having social group posts show up in the main screen of the forum would go a long way. There was an old v3.X mod for this, but nothing for v4.X.

Thank you in advance for taking this under consideration.

What is the link to the 3x modification? Maybe something like this could be tied into the InfoPanels mod instead of a new mod. Fillip H. would probably know if that could be done as he is the dev for InfoPanels.

I would suppose the only groups that should show up is the public groups, not the private ones, unless the member is in the group.

I was thinking it would be similar to the way it works on Facebook. If you're in the group, you see the latest posts - if not, then you don't.

Ok that is what I was thinking as well, but I have no idea about facebook.

FB confounds me. Sometimes I'm shown the latest posts of the groups I've joined in my "News Feed," and sometimes I don't. But, either way, it only displays activity from the groups I'm involved with.

I'm currently implementing the Mielo theme, which has a "grid" view that doesn't have the latest forum posts shown on the forum homepage. I'm not sure how this would affect the implementation of a 'Social Groups on Forumhome' mod.

Also, this recent Forbes article suggests that the 'groups' function on Facebook is actually superior to Facebook itself. I could see groups really having the same potential to to take off in the vBulletin environment, too, if it could only implemented to the end-user as well as the the forum itself is, as well.

That's cool.

So, if someone was in, say, 50 groups, they'd have all 50 displayed? I'm actually ok with that, but just asking for clarity's sake.

Admin control of where the groups are displayed on forumhome would be good. I.e., above/below main forum. I would prefer 'above' but that's because I'm trying to promote the idea of social groups, so I might be a bit biased.

Yeah I suppose it would show all groups they belonged to, maybe with a limit on the display amount, by a setting. Yeah it would have to be above or below.
