I am thinking it could pull something like articles also add original content (text, images, videos) embed and lead to view additional content on the forum which could only be view when clicked on in the Page Turn content.

It's all about presentation and I was looking at it as a magazine that could have monthly or bi-monthly issues etc.

Using it for a newsletter would make much more sense to me. That way, the various pages could have dedicated content on them (most active discussions since last newsletter, blog from site owner, random article, newest members, member birthdays, etc). I could definitely see some potential in something like that.

Yes, a newsletter would be a good start with the items mentioned.
I have seen newsletters turn into small magazines.

newsletter - news, short and straightforward, thin copy.
magazine - features, long and heartwarming, may be thin or thick.

Okay if this became a newsletter here are some things to think about...
