I had an idea and not sure if this is the proper place for the thread. I went to the vB forum but seems I cannot start a thread there.
Does that mean you no longer do vBulletin skins/themes?

In case you're open to the idea...

I'd love to add a 'Pintrest' style to my forum page. I've attached a mock up image of what it might look like.

Starting Wish list of features
  • It wouldn't be it's own standalone theme but instead work off any already installed theme.
  • As admin I can select which forums would be part of the Pintrest style center section.
  • A scroll bar would be utilized and not an infinite scroll as in the actual pintrest style. This keeps the visual of a full page and won't allow for scrolling past any sidebars or the 'What's Going On' etc at the bottom.
  • Each "Pin" of each thread would show a handful of sequential posts of that particular thread. How many would be a selection I make in the ACP.
  • The info text under the the first "Pin" post would show the avatar of the original poster, the title of the thread, their username under the title (smaller font), number of comments etc. This is basically what is seen in the attachment.
  • As seen in the attachment, below some "pins" show extra photos in the same thread. These might be thumbnails of other photos added to that thread. (If possible - this would show some updates to the thread. If not, some how add the "New Post" icon that is currently seen in the normal thread layout or some other engenius way of showing it's been updated since last visit).
  • When a user wants to create a thread they click the 'post new thread' button and a selection box opens so they can select a pertinent forum for their post. Then they're taken to the regular editor box to make their post as usual.
  • When a user clicks the thumbnail they will be taken to the actual thread with the posts and comments.
  • The left side bar would contain widgets of other new forum posts. In my example I added 'Private Forums' because I do offer those. Any new posts in the private forums would only show up for users who have the proper permission to view that particular forum. If they do not have the proper permission then they won't even see the title 'private forum.' Also would contain any other widgets that the webmaster might find useful.
  • Perhaps make this a user selection modification. Meaning each member can choose to use this format or the default format. Perhaps this can be something in their individual settings page.

I'm sure there can be other features or ideas added to this but for starters I hope the idea is clear enough. Also I'm sure you guys have other/better thoughts about it.

Thank you for considering it.
:)

Hello,

The styling part is possible and shouldn't be a problem, there might be some restrictions but hopefully not that many. As for controlling the layout options in the AdminCP it would require a developer to code those features in.

Scott

Great news :)

When you say a developer, do you mean someone from vB in particular?

If one of the issues you're concerned about is the setting on how may threads to show in the center panel, maybe it could just be an infinite scroll "within" that center block of all the available threads for the selected forums.

LOL - I thought that at first but for some reasons I read his post to mean a developer outside you guys. Thought maybe there was some proprietary reasons it had to be a vB person involved.

Please ignore my occasional brain freeze. Apparently an ill spent youth caused more gray matter loss than I thought - that statement is a vicious circle... :)

Yeah someone from our team to handle those features, i only handle the styling and visual parts.

i'm not sure what limits i would run into just yet. But for the most part it shouldn't be a problem to code.
