I'm having a look at Classifieds to see if it can do what I need, basically I mostly just need the feedback part. I'll start by telling you how it works on my forum now, it's very very simple and basic.

A user creates a thread in the appropriate forum, writes some stuff about what he has to sell, the price he wants and uploads a picture. That's all he does.

Another user has a look, decides he wants it and posts a reply with something like: " I'll take it, sending a PM".

They then take all further discussion about payments and delivery and so on offline. That's it.

My question is, can Classifieds be dumbed down, (for want of a better phrase), to something like that level and still allow the feedback system to work?

I don't mean you modifying the mod, I mean can I, using the configurations, turn off most of what I don't want like auctions and payment options and stuff like that?

We're currently working on incorporating some of those ideas into version 2 of Classifieds. We've had requests for free/exchange style listings which sounds like what you want.

At the moment Classifieds requires an address of some sort, even if that isn't an accurate address. It is possible to mark a listing as paid and that could be tied into a 'Cash on Collection' Payment type we already have in place which allows for non electronic cash transfer. Would your users accept the method that Classifieds uses to 'buy' the listing as opposed to agreeing to the purchase over the PM system?

I'll take some more time tomorrow to go through exactly what we have and what we have on the drawing board (I'm working on these new listing types right at the moment in the development) and I might be able to work out exactly how it could be set through all the permissions.

Feel free to post any more of your requirements and I'll see if we can get it configured how you need it. :)

OK, version 2 sounds like it might be going towards what I want. I suspect there might be many others out there with requirements similar to mine. Great to see you guys working on it. :)

I'll give you a little more detail on how it works for me now and what I would be looking for in V2.

As I said in my previous post what I need is very simple, a way for somebody to list an item for sale or trade that includes a description and picture. Potential buyers need the ability to ask questions about the object; How long is it? How much does it weigh? What are the materials used? Are there any accessories? That sort of thing. The seller then needs to be able to answer those questions. This is why a thread system on the forum works well for that part.

When a buyer decides he wants it he simply posts in the thread that he will take it and then sends the seller a PM. In the PM system, or emails, they negotiate a price if possible, and then exchange payment and postage details and the like. All of this part is private between the two parties.

When the deal is concluded the seller then changes the prefix of the original sale thread to SOLD and that is the end of it, at least as far as the forum is concerned.

Here is where iTrader worked in well with that scenario. After the deal both seller and buyer could rate each other much like how it happens in Ebay. Others contemplating a deal with either of those people could look in the iTrader system and check their previous ratings if any. Once again, like ebay. This was a very popular part of the whole process with my members. Another advantage of the iTrader system is that buyers and sellers HAD to include the URL of the original sales thread when making a rating and the system checked that it matched the original poster username.

If V2 of Classifieds could cope with that type of scenario I would definitely buy it.

Feel free to ask me any questions if you have any, happy to help out any way I can in the development process or even beta test if desired.

That sounds good. If you have a Skype account, PM me your username and I'll add you and we can talk over the design concept in more detail. :)

Hi guys, has V2 of this product had any movement since my last post? Just wondering if it's still on the todo list or been shelved or whatever. Still keen to see it happen.

Thanks.

v2 is still being developed, but it's a big project and it's going to take a lot of work :)

Fair enough. Thanks.

I know you certainly can't give any timeframes but, in general terms, how much time would normally be spent on a project of this size. I know nothing about creating large mods like this so I ask simply out of curiosity.

Hmm, that's a bit difficult for me to answer. I don't have a complete overview of the amount of things going into v2, but it is worth mentioning that Mokonzi doesn't have as much time as I do available - he's not a full-time employee of DBTech :)

In the actual version it's possible to enforce a price and an image for the items (no bidding, gifts marked as such, exchange accepted but with a real target)

It's planned?

For bidding we have eBay, what I wnt to install it's a marketplace not bidding site or 'I accept offers'

If you mean can it act like a real shop, yes, in away. We already have in place listing types that permit users to sell an item as a buy-it-now, with no bidding, and also to exchange items or list things as freebies (give it away). We intend to expand on it in the future. Is that what you are wanting? Or something different?

Yes. the problem with all marketplace plugins is that people can put 'I accept offers' that are not fair because the community think that's going the eBay route. The other options: buy-it now, fair trade, and real freebies are acceptable.

When you have this feature...... send me a note
