DBTech News

Lots of news this week, so without further delay...

@Dylan has revealed his Sekrit Projekt™ to be Thread Ratings. This mod makes thread rating a more central part of your forum - it's much more centrally placed and aesthetically pleasing as well as extremely customisable. You can set multiple criteria for threads to be rated on, or users can simply use one-click rating to express how much they like a thread. v1 is now in pro beta and is available for $12.50/$19.95/$29.95 - grab it while it's such a bargain! You can read about it here.

vBActivity & Awards version 3 is now gold. The beta period was relatively stable and we want to thank those of you who took part and helped us squash the few bugs that did pop up. If you haven't checked it out yet we strongly recommend it - the completely overhauled contests feature is something to behold! The version number increase has also been accompanied by a price increase as mentioned last week. You can read more about it here.

AJAX Threads (Which is in the running for Novembers Mod of the Month has received a small update and is now at version 1.1.0 AJAX Threads 1.1.0 has added a few new features, the most obvious being the addition of a "live" symbol beside threads which have been marked for AJAXification.

In addition a couple of mods have received bugfix updates - vBMail v1.1.4 and Advanced User Tagging v2.0.4

You can read all about all of the updates here.

We are also very pleased to welcome @Pandemikk to our Trialist coder team alongside @Ozzy47 and @bszopi . All 3 guys are hard at work on their first mods, with @Ozzy47 on track to release a Beta of his first piece next week.

Decado's Corner

A busy week this week as you guys can see from the amount of news. I've run the gauntlet of tasks this week, from doing image work for @bszopi 's upcoming mod, to working with our freelance artist Jessica on various icons for @Dylans Thread Ratings mod, to designing new modifications, to chatting with and bringing on a new trainee coder, to setting up an exciting business opportunity with our friends over at SEOvB. All of this has been seriously impacting on my skyrim playing time, I am not amused! =P

In all seriousness I love weeks like this where there is always something different to do. I really like what Dylan has done with the Thread Rating concept, and there are already a whole bunch of ideas sitting waiting to be implemented in future versions, I can see it being a huge benefit to lots of forums, especially larger forums.

I got my first look at Brad's first mod for us this week. It's not quite far enough along for me to announce it but I can say it's looking very impressive - it's also something that has been requested a few times.

With the new coders on board we're starting to be able to work through the giant list of mods I have - we're starting the guys out with mods that can initially be small but have lots of expansion potential into pro mods down the road if all goes well. There are an exciting few months coming up, that's for sure.

On another positive note AJAX Threads is currently in the lead in Novembers Mod of the Month competition - a personal thanks from me for everyone who has voted for it, you guys are awesome =D

Thanks for reading,

Iain & The DBTech team.

Lots of great news. Is it planned to bring the new thread rating over to other areas in vbulletin? (blogs)

Busy, busy indeed, Thanks for making my mod suggestion a reality =) If it was already in the pipeline perhaps I just stumbled at the right time!

You said in a previous thread that Darkwaltz4 prefers to work on large products is this the case also after vBArcade?

Too early to say, we're still very much at a point where his project of choice could change ^.^

I'm kind of disappointed. I'll be honest, I was hoping for a DBTech RPG to replace the Inferno RPG. ;-; Y'know, the one you said we'd hopefully have a year ago?

That was the plan at a time, but the previous RPG game ended up taking more time and resources than we had anticipated, and did not sell nearly well enough to justify the outlay. As a result we've postponed any more games at the moment until we feel there is a suitable opportunity for something new.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news =(

You mean Forumon? Because I found Forumon more confusing and buggier than the old ones. Patches for the old one to work on 4.0 even would be nice if possible.

    Yep.

Work on the old "Inferno" RPG is, sadly, not possible for a variety of reasons.

I am sad...because Thread Ratings is only for vb4

(Yes I am a broken record with no interest in upgrading right now.)

Also, I find your logic a tad paradoxical because you're basing the selling of an old, favorite of many, heavy-hitter mod off of a new, super-glitchy, confusing, arguably lightweight mod. Just Saiyan.
