Improving Your Site: APTL

Advanced Post Thanks / Like is a powerful and flexible modification, adjustable to suit a multitude of needs.

Primarily, it's intended to be used to give people a quick and easy way of giving a virtual "thumbs up" or "thumbs down" to the author of a post without needing to post a post (and stay within forum rules of minimum post length while doing so). To that end, the "buttons" need to be configured correctly.
Configuring Buttons
  1. Ensure your Administrator account either has "Can Administer Thanks" or is set up as Super Administrator in config.php
  2. Under the DBTech - Post Thanks AdminCP menu group, click Manage Buttons
  3. Click Edit next to each Button
  4. Configure Can Click for each of your usergroups that you would like to be able to click this button
  5. Repeat from Step 3 for each of your Buttons
  6. Under the DBTech - Post Thanks AdminCP menu group, click Forum Manager
  7. Ensure "Disable" is not ticked for any button

You will now see a new "Bar" beneath posts for all posts made by others, which you can use to give "Thanks".

You can also use Advanced Post Thanks / Like as a limited "Hide Hack". This is a feature added by popular request, and is currently not as fleshed out as the "dedicated" hide hacks out there. You're currently able to hide either all attachments, certain parts of the post, or both. You can choose one or more buttons that need to be clicked before the post contents is revealed.
"Hide Hack"
  1. Under the DBTech - Post Thanks AdminCP menu group, click Manage Buttons
  2. Click Edit next to each Button
  3. Tick Can Require Click for each usergroup that should be able to hide their content
  4. Choose Default Button: Attachments if by default this button need to be clicked to see Attachments
  5. Choose Default Button: Content if by default this button need to be clicked to see the contents of HIDE BBCode tags
  6. While posting, click Go Advanced (if making a reply) and scroll down to Miscellanious options
  7. Tick Require Thanks to see content to hide content between HIDE BBCode tags until the Thanks button is clicked
  8. Tick Require Thanks to see attachments to hide all attachments until the Thanks button is clicked

If you have a forum that's used for news, you may wish to restrict buttons to only the first post.
First Post Only (Pro Exclusive Feature)
  1. Under the DBTech - Post Thanks AdminCP menu group, click Forum Manager
  2. Tick "First Post Only" next to the forums you wish to restrict the buttons in

In this forum, the chosen buttons will only appear in the first post.

You may also wish to have your most "disliked" posts be hidden from view, Reddit style. You can do this by using the "Post Auto-Collapse" feature. By default, a post will auto-collapse if it has received 10 more "Dislikes" than it has "Likes".
Collapse Disliked Posts (Pro Exclusive Feature)
  1. Under the DBTech - Post Thanks AdminCP menu group, click Settings -> Edit Settings
  2. Follow the instructions in the description for the (Pro) Post Collapse Weighting setting to write your formula
  3. Choose the (Pro) Post Auto-Collapse Threshold in the setting below the Weighting setting

You will now find that posts that reach your configured threshold as per your formula will be collapsed as if it was Soft Deleted.

Hopefully these guides helped some of you out, feel free to post a "How do I?" question in the support forums if you have any further questions

As always, thank you for your continued support
